Mubadala Takes $1 Billion Minority Stake in Luckin Coffee
Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company agreed on September 10, 2026 to join Luckin Coffee's controlling shareholder Centurium Capital in a roughly $1 billion minority investment; together the two will hold about 22.1% of Luckin on an as-converted basis, and Mubadala can nominate a board director while it holds at least 5%. Luckin has grown from 6,600 to more than 36,000 stores since 2022 and logged close to 500 million cumulative transacting customers as of June 30, 2026.
Why it matters: The year's largest coffee-chain investment shows sovereign capital backing China's discount-driven, tech-heavy coffee model, a structural shift worth watching as Luckin's scale increasingly shapes sourcing and pricing trends outside the US.
